Dr. Pradeep Kumar Mishra
Born on August 5th 1964, Prof. Mishra graduated from Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee (University of Roorkee) in 1986 in Chemical Engineering. He obtained M. Tech. degree from Indian Institute of Technology, Mumbai in 1988 with specialization in Petroleum & Coal. Ph.D. (Chemical Engineering) degree was awarded to Prof Mishra by Indian Institute of Technology (BHU) Varanasi in 1995. Prof. Mishra has briefly served the Indian industries between, 1988-1990 & 1995-1996. He joined the Department of Chemical Engineering & Technology, IT, BHU, Varanasi in 1997 as Lecturer, became Reader in 2004, Associate Professor in 2007 and Professor in 2010. Professor Mishra has supervised over 20 Ph.D. (Chemical Engineering/Environmental Science/Biotechnology/Biochemical Engineering). He has also supervised over 70 M.Tech. (Chemical/Biochemical/Mechanical Engineering), M.Sc. & M. Phil (Environmental Science) and M. S. (Surgery/Orthopedic Surgery) thesis. To promote inter-Institutional research, he is supervising masters and doctoral work of IIT Roorkee, MNNIT, Allahabad and U.P. Technical University.

Professor Mishra is currently heading the Department of Chemical Engineering and Technology and Malviya Centre of Innovation Incubation and Entrepreneurship (2008 onwards) at Indian Institute of Technology (BHU) Varanasi and also discharging his duties as Deputy Coordinator, Centre of Advanced Study in Chemical Engineering (2012 onwards). Prof. Mishra has been appointed as Governing Council Member of NIESBUD by Ministry of MSME, New Delhi for session 2014-15 & 2015-16. He has been Coordinator, Centre for Education Technology from 2007 to 2013; Chief Coordinator, Industry Institute Partnership Cell from 2005 to 2009, President Institute Gymkhana for the session 2009-10; Proctor, Banaras Hindu University form 2005-2010; Chairman, Cultural Wing of Institute Gymkhana during 2005-06. Prof. Mishra has also contributed towards overall development of academic and other extension activities of Banaras Hindu University through active participation as convener and member of various committees such as Intellectual Property Right Cell, Technology Transfer Cell, BHU Resurgence Committee and Core Committee for development of South Campus at Barkaccha, Diploma in Entrepreneurship at South Campus etc.

Professor Mishra has also served several social and voluntary organizations such as Member, Executive Board of Children Emancipation Society of UK (www.projectmala.org), Manav Khidamat Foundation (www.villageclinic.com) at Marufpur in Chaundali District, Bankhandi Sewa Sanathan at Jaisinghpur, Sultanpur and Secretary, Manishi Parishad Kashi. Prof. Mishra has also editing a website www.kashikatha.com to highlight the cultural and religious importance of city Varanasi. Prof. Mishra is actively engaged in social & environmental awakening through ‘Manishi Parishad – Kashi’. He is also actively involved in the publication of monthly magazines – Aagraha (Social interventional Varanasi based magazine) and Parmita (Bilingual research journal).
Prof. Mishra is also serving several professional bodies in different capacities such as Life Member of Indian Institution of Chemical Engineers (IICHE), Member of Association of Institutions of Environmental Management (AIEM), and Secretary, Malviya Centre for Innovation Incubation and Entrepreneurship, BHU Varanasi. Prof Mishra is serving the Industries mainly SMEs of the region in different capacities such as Chairman, Technical Up gradation Committee, DIC, Varanasi, Advisor for Silk, Stone and Fan Cluster of Varanasi. He has conducted Technology Gap Analysis for Carpet Cluster of Bhadohi & Mirzapur for TIFAC, DST, New Delhi. Prof Mishra has designed and improved the Effluent Treatment Plants of KEC International Limited, Jabalpur, M.P. and Lords Distillery Limited, Nandganj, Ghazipur, U. P. In addition to these he has been Advisor to number of other industries such as ALKEM Laboratories Limited, Mumbai, Vimal Organics, Gaziabad & TRCC, Gurgaon.

He is the recipient of several awards and honors. Ministry of Renewable Energy Sources awarded him the Second Prize (along with others) on the book entitled Jaiveeya Dravya: Ushma Rasayanik Guna Dharma (in Hindi) in 2006. He has been nominated as Technology Angel for Environmental Science by DSIR in 2008-09. He has been twice selected for DST-Lockheed Nomination of Indo-US Science Forum for Technology Commercialization at IC2 Institute, University of Texas-Austin for the years 2010 & 2012. Prof. Mishra is reviewer to number of reputed journals such as – ‘Separation Science & Technology, Bioresource Technology etc.

Prof. Mishra has made significant contribution in the field of separation processes especially membrane separation, extraction, waste water treatment, bioremediation, Nano-materials, biocompatible polymers, nano-fibers, bio-energy & waste utilization etc. He has authored/co-authored over 40 technical papers published in National and International Journals and over 100 technical articles presented at various national/international seminars/conferences. He has authored/edited over half a dozen books and contributed around half a dozen chapters to standard reference books. Prof. Mishra has also contributed in the development of academic activities at other institutions of the region by joining their board of studies such as Motilal Nehru National Institute of Technology, Allahabad, Agrasen Kanya PG (Autonomous) College, Varanasi and SVDV for Science, BHU. Prof. Mishra has organized over 25 National & International Seminars/Conferences and Events for the benefit of academic community. Prof. Mishra is having more than dozen industrial and scientific projects to his credits mainly from DST, DSIR, TIFAC, NSTEDB, ALKEM, Mumbai & KECIL, Jabalpur etc.

Prof. Mishra has taken keen interest in the development of entrepreneurship activities at Indian Institute of Technology (BHU) Varanasi formerly Institute of Technology, Banaras Hindu University by inception of Entrepreneurship Development Cell in 2004 and starting Opulence, the entrepreneurship and Management Festival at the Institute. Later Prof. Mishra started training youths of eastern Uttar Pradesh in this area in collaboration with Entrepreneurship Development Institute, Ahmadabad.  Prof. Mishra coordinated Techno-Entrepreneurship Promotion Program of Department of Scientific & Industrial Research, Govt. of India from 2006-2012 for UP, Bihar, MP and Jharkhand to promote techno-entrepreneurship in grass root innovators of the region. Later on with the help of National Science & Technology Entrepreneurship Development Board of Department of Science and Technology, Ministry of Science & Technology, Govt. of India, Prof. Mishra established Technology Business Incubator at the Institute for supporting young minds for business creation with their studies and heading the unit since then. Four companies have already been graduated from this incubator and one of the companies being incubated was awarded with best innovative exhibit of Indian International Trade Fair at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi in 2013. Currently over a dozen companies are being incubated at TBI, IIT (BHU) Varanasi in the areas of Information Technology, Bio-Technology, Food Technology and Agriculture Value Addition. Prof. Mishra is also heading the Technology Commercialization Program of Technology Information Forecasting and Assessment Council, DST, Govt. of India for U.P. and neighboring region since 2010.
